This lavender salve has a deepened fragrance because of the addition of patchouli and clary sage. The latter essential oils bring soul to this calendula salve. Did you know patchouli was (in)famous during the seventies as an antidote to depression, as a cure for sexual performance anxiety and to generally improve libido? It may be all that but there is more.

Patchouli plant has long been used in Chinese medicine to fight infections and inflammations, fever and aches. The leaves are used to repel insects.

Patchouli oil has strong antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, so is complimentary with the calendula attributes. Patchouli and lavender help heal injuries and burns and alleviate pain.

Patchouli oil has been shown in tests to inhibit the growth of acne bacteria. Its antifungal properties have led people to use patchouli essential oil on the scalp to reduce fungi responsible for seborrheic dermatitis or dandruff.

Patchouli leaves have often been used in India as a mosquito repellent, also was once widely used in packing garments to keep moths away. This is also why its leaves and oils are used in potpourri. It has been used to combat ants, flies and termites! So lovely isn’t it that we enjoy the fragrance so disliked by or deadly for bugs!

The lovely calendula flowers capture healing energy of the sun – only look at the colors! They are grown organically in Southwest Florida. The calendula tinctures ‘cure’ for 2 to 3 years, so there is much potency collected from the flower into the alcohol. The alcohol dissipates upon being blended with the organic oils. I do not filter out all the calendula petals. This is intentional. If you are lucky, you may find one or two inside your salve!

When I got awful chigger bites from standing in tall grasses, your salve was the only thing that gave me any relief. Before I remembered it, I tried several other things hydrocortisone cream and Calomine lotion - to no avail. The only thing that has given me any relief is your calendula /lavender salve. I put the lemon elderflower salve on my face everyday and it is bleaching my sunspots. I do not use sunscreen, it breaks my skin out. We use it for many things, including to soothe lips (and I'm a professional trumpet player, so I love good lip care products), take care of itches, and to clear up skin care issues (something like rosacea). I've also used it to calm scalp psoriasis. Recently I've started using it for a night cream and it works great.

My dad’s back itched. It got so bad he was using objects on himself when no one was available to scratch for him. One day I tried my pumpkin salve on him. Besides the fact that he loved having it applied and liked the scent, my mom noticed he wasn't asking her to scratch his back as much. So we kept using it and his requests for back scratching lessened! Sometimes he would injure his skin scratching it, so lessening the scratching was important. A few weeks ago, I bought a jar of your calendula salve and absolutely love it! I use it for everything. It works amazingly well on bug bites-the itch goes away the second the oil dissolves into the skin. I use it under my arms after I shave and it prevents razor burn. That last part is amazing. The strange thing is that I can rub it on my face and although my skin will be shiny for a few minutes, it doesn't make it oily. It works very well on burns and cuts. Needless to say, I love this product.
